The first USCHO weekly poll is out and Terriers simply made the top 20, taking the final spot. In USA Today / USA Hockey magazine, BU scored the 18th highest number of points. But, considering BU is coming off a 10-21-4 season, those ratings are at least encouraging. One reason for optimism is the strong core of returnees. Another is the top-to-bottom quality of the Terriers recruiting class, which has earned the # 1 ranking from OverTheBoards. The exploration service announced yesterday:
We reported last summer that Rick DiPietro, a former BU and NHL goalkeeper, was exploring a new career direction by completing a sports radio show. The audition was a success and DiPietro has signed up to co-host a weeknight show on ESPN’s New York City station.
Other ex-Terriers-turned-announcers include Mike Eruzione, who was an analyst at MSG Network for the Rangers and Devils game; Dave Tomlinson, radio analyst for the Vancouver Canucks games; Tom Ryan, longtime analyst at the University of Buenos Aires hockey broadcasts; and Don “Toot” Cahoon, a former UMass head coach who has been doing color on WBIN college hockey broadcasts.
Following a 3-0 victory in last Saturday’s exhibition game against Queens University, the Terriers were ranked No. 4 in the USA Today / USA Hockey magazine preseason poll. Last week’s USCHO poll ranked BU in sixth place.
